Flip Flop Shops at University Place comes from a lifelong love of the coast. BJ grew up in Northern California, spending weekends at beaches like Sea Cliff, Santa Cruz, and Carmel. That connection grew even stronger when he attended Brigham Young University-Hawaii, where he spent time at Hukilau, Castles, Sunset, Pipeline, and other North Shore beaches.

While at BYU-Hawaii, BJ met Megan, a Utah native who also loves being near the water. After finishing school at BYU-Hawaii and Brigham Young University, they spent 15 years enjoying Southern California beaches like Huntington, Zuma, Venice, and Santa Barbara while raising their five children.

In 2019, BJ and Megan moved to Utah but wanted to keep the beach lifestyle close. They opened Flip Flop Shops at University Place to bring a bit of coastal comfort to the community, offering premium sandals and slides from brands like OluKai, Reef, Rainbow Sandals, Cobian, and Birkenstock.
